Minimally Invasive, Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Diagnosis and Treatment of Epilepsy

UPMC Presbyterian recently became the first hospital in western Pennsylvania to use robotic assistance to improve this procedure. The Robotic Stereotactic Assistance (ROSA) system has a robotic arm with six degrees of freedom — an architecture that simulates movements of a human arm, allowing the rapid and precise alignment of multiple trajectories for electrode placement (Figure 1).
